BROWARD COUNTY, Fl – Watch the video segment below on the Forest of Families Project that is included in the “Forever Families” video to be aired on August 13, 2013 on CBS 12 in Palm Beach County and on August 16 on NBC 6 in Broward County.
Forest of Families
$30,000 ($15,000 AoC Grant)
Lead Artist(s): Eduardo Gardin
Every month in Broward County, 150 children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected enter the foster care system. During this difficult time in their young lives, they need a temporary, loving foster home where they can heal and grow. The Forest of Families project will increase awareness about the need for more people to open their heart and their homes to children in care.
The Forest of Families project will bring a diverse group of Broward County residents together through visual arts. Participants are asked to create a family totem pole to explore the meaning of family with their friends, spouses, and children and then asked to consider expanding their definition of family to include children in foster care. These family totems will be displayed publically “en masse” at the Museum of Art to provide a powerful visual impact to promote the message of our foster care needs in Broward. Any family can participate and make a totem.
