Join LGBT Performance & Discussion

“Not Alone! The Expressions of Hope Project” was created by the community through a series of improvisational workshops and includes a series of vignettes that explore the issues and stressors that contribute to depression. The Wilton Manors community has recently seen an increase in suicides amongst its LGBT residents and the interactive performances are designed to help unite the community, inspire hope and demonstrate that together they can overcome the struggles they face.

The Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention, together with Robin Braun of Inside Out Theatre Company, SunServe and the City of Wilton Manors will present performances of “Not Alone! The Expressions of Hope Project” at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday October 13th at The Pride Center, 2040 North Dixie Hwy. and on Thursday October 17th at  7:00  p.m. at The Hagen Center, 2020 Wilton Drive.  The performances are a culmination of a year-long project funded by The Community Foundation of Broward in order to engage the LGBT community of Wilton Manors and the surrounding areas in a dialogue to help prevent suicide.

The community has been involved in every aspect of the project which includes an art-design contest, a documentary of the year-long process and a special appearance from The Gay Men’s Chorus. What began as an intense discourse about the issues the community faces, has now become a powerful theatrical piece which will include the audience’s feedback and discussion.  Please join us for a memorable event and help be part of the solution, because “suicide is everyone’s business”.
